A Writer Speaks Up - Some Thoughts About The Bent-Wood Trilogy
Recently I've been fielding several questions about the relationship between the hero and the heroine in several of my Bent-Wood Trilogy stories.
These questions generally center on our hero's seeming preoccupation, some would call it a fixation really, with his lover's gratification. My response was rather simple, and that has to do with the fact, however controversial this may be, with the fact that men, for the most part, are rather simple creatures. They are, again for the most part preoccupied with their own gratification or pleasure. Our hero on the other hand fixes his attention on the pleasure of his consort. Yes, I know, It has been brought up that our heroine is a somewhat rebellious, perhaps radical and a powerful woman in her own right. From time to time she manages to turn the tables on him, and gets what some might refer to as 'the upper hand'. But a few moments of reflection will indicate that this is quite in keeping with our hero's posture to begin with.

While I'm in the process of changing the layout of these pages for the umpteenth time, I thought I'd take a few minutes to share the perspective within which these changes are taking place- The context, Over the last twelve years or so we have remained all but completely focused on the most pressing issue that, for most of us, the Internet or that which we blithely call the Internet, consistently presents to us, The issue of monetization, More simply earning a decent living doing that thing which we most love to do. That thing about which we are consistently the most passionate. Let me give you a rather graphic and recent example.
On this latest leg of my journey, back to Carbondale IL from Mesquite NV,On to Virginia, Tennessee, and Toronto I was shocked to discover that I had lost or misplaced the power-cord to my digital camera, A 7.2 megapixel Casio Exilim. At some critical, or what seemed so at the time, my batteries went dead and I discovered that the camera in question would not recharge connected to the USB port of the laptop alone.

I'll depart from the story-line just a bit in the interest of brevity, and cut to the chase, One writes, particularly, when one discovers, as did I, that one is truly a writer by nature, albeit a writer who depends heavily on audio and photography, still and motion, to enhance a basically static or so-called 'normal' web-page. This is what we have been calling up to this point a vLog ( Shorthand for an Audio & Video Enhanced Web-log ). When we started using this term, more years ago then I can count or recall, there were less than 1,200 such sites on the entire Internet, and my peers, quite frankly, thought I was going crazy. Perhaps so ...
Granted, I've had to defer placing my order for that power-cord, but not without pointing out two things.
First of all is the realization, after all these years, that I am a writer or more accurately perhaps, a story-teller and that, at best, almost everything we do is just that- The sharing of stories. Granted we now have a variety of tools that serve to enhance this practice. Secondarily, a renewed interest and the realization that goes along with it, that we remain focused on the process of earning a decent living online - communicating.
